Offence Paralleling Behaviour (OPB)

Practitioners/managers are coached in the theory and knowledge base surrounding ‘offence paralleling behaviour’ (OPB) for those cases where young people are held in secure establishments (i.e. HM Prison Service, Secure Children’s Homes, Secure Training Centres, Secure Hospitals).

This is a contemporary, dynamic form of risk assessment practice that focuses on the ‘flow’ of current behaviour whilst in custody, rather than focusing upon ‘past behaviour’ within the community, as a method to inform licence conditions upon discharge from custody, MAPPA risk management plans, and to help to inform case formulations relating to young people held in custody.  OPB features within ASSET Plus risk assessment framework under ‘wider/other concerning behaviours’, however no further information regarding OPB has been provided by YJB via ASSET Plus training support packages, as this is a framework of risk assessment from the field of forensic clinical psychology, and not youth justice/social work/probation practice.

Formal feedback evaluation sheets will also be provided for staff attendees to complete which will be made available via an anonymised and aggregated summary evaluation feedback report to both the Head of Service and Strategic Management Board members.

To support and evidence Continuing Professional Development (CPD), all participants who successfully complete both full days of the support package will receive a high quality certificate for their attendance and contribution.
